OVIDIO, Publio Nasone (43 a.C.-17? d.C.) - De Tristibus. [Venice: Giovanni Taccuino, 1525?]. An uncommon edition published by the Venetian printer Giovanni Taccuino, renown for having printed numerous works of the classics in Latin and vernacular. It differs slightly from the copy described in SBN and printed in 1511. Folio (286 x 202mm). Fine woodcut vignettes at the beginning of each of the five books and woodcut ornated initials, text surrounded by the commentary (some dampstaining to first leaves, title reinforced and browned, some other small restorations, without final blank). Modern binding reusing an ancient antiphonary leaf (traces of the ties); within a modern case. Provenance: some ancient annotations on title and in the text.
