[JUDAICA] - DA TUDELA, Beniamino (m. ca. 1173) - Itinerarium cum Versione e Notis. She give: ex officina Elzevir, 1633. First edition in Hebrew and Latin by Benjamin da Tudela remembered as the most important traveler of Jewish origin in the Middle Ages. It is an important source for the history of the Jewish traditions in the Mediterranean area. The author, whom was the first European to mention China with this name, traveled from Spain through southern France, Italy, Greece, Constantinople, Cyprus, Palestine to Egypt and visited many of the locals communities. He described the lighthouse of Alexandria (later collapsed in 1326) as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. 8vo (154 x 100mm). Letterpress on title, initials and woodcut vignettes (slight foxing and minimal browning, occasional small wormholes). Modern boards (spine reinforced in cloth with previous label applied).
