GUICCIARDINI, Lodovico (1521-1589) - Descrittione di tutti i Paesi Bassi, altrimenti detti Germania Inferiore. Antwerp: Christopher Plantin, 1581. A complete copy with the plates in fresh state of this second Italian edition and the first to be printed by Plantin. Folio (330 x 222mm). Title within architecture border, portrait of Philip of Spain surrounded by the coats of arms of the various regions, engraved plate with large arms within an architectural frame (in other copies the portrait of Philip II and the large coat of arms are sometimes on the opposite pages), allegorical additional frontespiece "Iustitia res conservantur", Guicciardini's coat of arms engraved in wood, 55 geographical maps and views engraved by Adam De Bruyn after Crispin Van der Broecke depicting among others Brussels, Luxembourg, Amsterdam, Maastricht and Antwerp (first leaves reinforced at the inner margins, some small wormoles in the lower margin from approximately half of the work, some light browning and spotting). Slightly later limp vellum, with later manuscript title on spine and ties, red edges (modern endpapers and a few stains).
