[EUCLIDE] - CLAVIO, Cristoforo (1538-1612) - Euclidis Elementorum libri 15. Colony: Giovan Battista Ciotti, 1591. Third edition of the "valuable commentaries of Clavius" (Riccardi) published for the first time in 1574. It isn't a translation of Euclid, but a work in itself which contains many notes collected by previous commentators and editors, and further thoughts by Clavius himself. 2 parts in one volume, folio (322 x 206mm). Titles within an elaborate woodcut border, woodcut initials and friezes, printer's device at the end (early stamp removed on title, some browning and spotting, ):( 6 repaired in lower corner). 18th-century vellum, title on spine label (modern endpapers, slight staining and chipping). Provenance: illegible ownership inscription on title.
