ALDROVANDI, Ulisse (1522-1605) - De reliquis animalibus exanguibus libri quatuor..de mollibus, crustaceis, testaceis, et zoophytis. Bologna: Marco Antonio Bernia, 1642. Later edition of Aldrovandi's treatise dedicated to crustaceans, octopuses, shells, jellyfish. It is one of the earliest works and the largest set of concological illustrations and descriptions published to date . Folio (358 x 233mm). Title within an engraved frame in imitation of the one of the 1606 edition printed by Bellagamba, numerous woodcut illustrations in the text, some full-page, woodcut headpieces and initials (without the three dedication leaves π2-π4, wormholes in the lower right margin from title to leaf b without loss of text, hole in the colophon with partial loss of text, otherwise in good condition). Contemporary vellum with manuscript title on spine, speckled edges (small chips to spine).
