VIRGILIO, Publio Marone (70-19 a.C.) - Poetarum principis Opera accuratissime castigata. Venice: Lucantonio Giunta, 1537. A richly annotated copy of this edition of Virgil. Among the numerous annotations some are in Italian and mention other renowned poets such as Dante, Tasso, Lattanzio and Macrobio. 3 parts in one volume, folio (293 x 204mm). Title within architectural border, 115 large woodcuts and numerous initials (without blank 2t6 replaced by a later blank leaf, title and final leaf reinforced and somewhat worn, some browning, staining and repairs). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine (some worming and staining). SBN reports an imprecise signature at the end of the first and final part. The volume corresponds to the digitized copies examined. Provenance: Flaminio Pacifico di Arpinate (slightly later ownership inscription on title and part of the Italian annotations) - numerous other annotations - Paulinae Pougel Dervieu du Villar (exlibris).
